Abhay is a SEBI registered Investment Manager. He is the founder and MD of Piper Serica Advisors. He invests proprietary capital and advises private investors on investments in publicly traded companies in India and in the USA. He also invests in private companies, including start-ups and in real estate.
Abhay has developed a proprietary investment framework to identify long term multi-bagger investment opportunities that lead to creation of significant wealth. Average holding period of investments is more than 2 years. He is supported by a team of analysts that continuously scan the Indian and global markets for investment opportunities. The six point investment framework has risk management as a key constituent and a constant evaluation of the operating performance of portfolio companies.
Some of the core portfolio holdings that have provided more than 10X returns include Ricoh India (exited fully) and Accelya Kale. The overall Indian portfolio IRR for the 5 year period from April 2011 to March 2016 was over 44%, significantly beating the low single digit IRR of the broad market indices.
Prior to this, Abhay worked as a Director with the private equity group of JP Morgan in India, HK and Singapore (1997-2003). He invested in companies in India, Korea, Australia, Singapore, China and the US. His range of private investments include large and small LBO’s, growth equity and start up capital. Some of the companies he invested in include HDFC Bank, Piramal Glass, Jubilant Foodworks (Dominos India), Nicholas Piramal (acquired by Abbott), Bharat Forge, MTR Foods (acquired by Orkla), Mando Machinery Korea, Mindtrac Singapore, Marico, HDFC Securities, FirstNaukri Solutions, Venator Search Partners, ASEC USA, INSORCE etc. He was a director on the board of some of these companies.
Abhay is a black belt in Judo and a certified international Judo coach. He trains under-privileged children and supports budding Judokas.
